I've seen a lot of varied track listings for these sessions. The reason for this, I believe, is because a lot of mixing and matching of riffs are occuring. Depending on what the ear catches, one may hear That's the Way or the Rain Song in one spot and another song altogether within the same take. I've labeled them by what stood out to me (if anything. Note all the "Instrumental" takes. You may hear something there that I did not). This is the best version of the outtakes you'll find. I recieved them along with the Mobile/Ft. Worth/Buffalo/Chicago '73 tapes. In the initial correspondence with the the person who originally held the tapes he states "The tapes are only one generation off the master". However, because the III and IV rehearsals as well as NY7-27-73 were already circulating I call this claim into question, suspecting they are actually a generation further down the line. If I am wrong, then great. Everyones generation actually is set back one. But, this is why I have labeled the above '73 boards (and this tape) 3rd gen.

This set was taken from a group of tapes that I judge to be 3rd gen from given evidence (See Mobile/Ft Worth/Buffalo/Chicago 73 for explanation).I had long ago burned them to Cd-R to preserve the music. I present them here because they are low gen and superb quality.

Early Days (alternate mixes) (Refined Masters)

various UK and US studios, 1968-1971
Early Days (alternate mixes)
(Refined Masters)

1. BABE I'M GONNA LEAVE YOU (take 8) 6.35
Plant sings as if he will never sing again. No overdubs or nice arrangements,
just the group trashing the hell out of the piece.

2. BABE I'M GONNA LEAVE YOU (take 9) 6.16
Similar to take 8.

3. YOU SHOOK ME (alternate mix) 7.49
A crude guitar sound (not produced or echoed at all), long harmonica wanderings,
Abruptly cut.

4. CELEBRATION DAY (instrumental) 3.25
Previously unreleased.

5. OUT ON THE TILES (instrumental) 4.15
Previously unreleased.

6. HEY HEY WHAT CAN I DO (instrumental) 3.33
Previously unreleased.

7. JENNINGS FARM BLUES (instrumental) 6.24
This instrumental jam sounds very similiar to an electrical version of
'Bron-y-aur Stomp'.

8. FEEL SO BAD/FIXING TO DIE/THAT'S ALRIGHT, MAMA 7.06
An all out Page/Plant acoustic blues jam. Similar to 'Hats Off to (Roy) Harper'.

9. BLACK DOG (alternate mix with count-in) 5.03
Guitars are mixed slightly different. Previously unheard guitar solo that
continues through five repeats of the chord theme before fading out.

10. THE BATTLE OF EVERMORE (alternate mix) 5.33
Rough mix. Plant is still working out the vocals. Different lyrics and no backing
vocals by Sandy Denny.

11. FOUR STICKS (instrumental) 4.52
Previously unreleased.

12. FOUR STICKS (with Bonzo chat and drum intro) 5.24
Bonzo chatter at the beginning and a count-in. This version has a clearer,
more natural sound with superb clarity of the vocals and drums.

13. WHEN THE LEVEE BREAKS (alternate mix) 7.03
Previously unreleased. No overdubs. Alternate lyrics.

14. 'LED ZEPPELIN II' OUTTAKES 4.04
'Whole Lotta Love'/'Heartbreaker'/'Ramble On'.
